Picture Perfect

November 29, 2010

Soooooo, I am finishing out the month of November with 4 weekly challenges completed from Scraps of Color / ScrapNFit! Yaaaay! I had never done that before and I am quite proud of myself! This also allows me to actually scrapbook and I sooo enjoy scrapbooking! In this challenge, which is Technique Tuesday #47- Ribbon, Trim and Lace, I used some photos of (you guessed it) Jai when she was 6 months. The paper used I couldn’t tell you where from because it was stash. I basically used three different patterned pages cut up and embellish with glitzy glitter glue. I trimmed the photos with lace, ribbon and some fiber adornments from EK Success. I also had lacey flower trim I picked up from the Dollar Tree that I used to embellish the page and trim a photo. I am loving the fact that I’ve been digging in the mounds and mounds of stash. I probably don’t need to go to the store for anything any time soon but you know good & dargone well I will make a trip with a coupon in a second.

Teniera & Jai smiling pretty, eventually!

I enjoyed doing this page because I love these pics of me and my baby trying to take that perfect picture. It doesn’t matter because all of them were PICTURE PERFECT! Don’t forget to leave a comment!

Thanks for stopping by! Smooches………

The Un-Smile

November 22, 2010

Sooooo, my baby, Jai Monet was entered into the 2010 NAACP Baby Contest and had to do a couple photo shoots. As anyone with kids know…they never do what you want them to do! All the posing she does for me at home….I couldnt bribe her to do it for me in front of the photographers. So what we ended up with was the Un-Smile.

2010 NAACP Baby Contestant- Jai Monet

In this LO, I used a black and white photo.  This was the Technique Tuesday #46 Challenge on ScrapNFit! Check out the site. It is chocked full of information for weight loss, card-making and scrapbooking. This challenge made me pull out something I bought ions ago.  It’s called Die Cut Overlays by Die Cuts with a View.  They came 3 in a pack. So I used the blue one with some paper from a paper pack I picked up from Walmart, Martha Stewart Create.

After punching out all the squares, laying around with placement….this is what I came up with. You will notice that I love polka-dots and buttons. That’s what I used to embellish this page. Colorful, neat and spicy! I am proud of this page. I am also so very proud to use some stock from the beginning of this decade. Yay me for defeating my hoarding mentality yet again.

Until next time…..Smooches!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Blah, Blah, Blah!

Purple< Turquoise and Silver Christmas CardSooooo, it is that time of year again. The holidays are fast approaching. Haven’t quite gotten past Thanksgiving and all you hear about is Christmas. Don’t get me wrong…. I love the holidays. I just think it’s too commercial now and not as happy of a time as it used to be. It may have to do with being adult but who knows.

I love the holidays because of all the reasons to craft. I joined a Christmas card swap on Scraps of Color for the month of November. I actually had fun doing this swap because….awww heck! I have fun doing all the swaps! I am so “into” non-traditional so I chose purple, turquoise and silver as my colors. I actually chose those colors after I found that beautiful ribbon. I embossed the turquoise paper with swirls. Stamped and used embossing powder on the title. Cut out Christmas bulbs/balls using the sizzix and embellished with glitter glue. It’s so Christmas in a non-Christmasy way!

Thanks for stopping by! Toodles…..

U R my Sunshine!

My Sunshine....Jai Monet

Soooo, I did a Technique Tuesday Challenge from Scrap N Fit website and we were asked to use vellum. Vellum has always been a “go to” item of mine because of it’s many uses and I love to journal or add text using vellum.

On this page, I used vellum to create a sun and sun rays. I also went flower crazy on this page. I love flowers! In these photos, my baby was, yet again, enjoying her glider. Those bears that are dangling above kept her mezmerized enough time to make and eat a sandwich! I know….toooo funny!

I also have a confession….my baby is about to be 3 years old. I am announcing this because I promise the next page I post will be of something recent to mix it up a little. My purpose is to finally finish her first year album. Yeah….my goal was to finish before she turns 3 in 3 weeks but not sure if i’ll make it! Keep your fingers crossed.

Until next time….Toodles!

“Exit 49″ Part Dos

November 7, 2010

Sooooo, I am back with another challenge completed! WHOO-HOOOO! This just means that I am MAKING time for myself these days! As my dear friend Malynda would say, “Scrapbooking is so relaxing to me.”  My first love, making jewelry, is taking a back seat for now because I have some papercrafting to get out of my system!

My Mom's Senior Portrait

For a challenge this week from Scraps of Color, we were asked to use trasparencies. I actually had just gotten a new paper pack- Me and My Big Ideas that has transparencies included. The photo I used was of my mother from high school, her senior portrait. This page will be included in a gift to her. An album of photos throughtout the years and each page will have whatever age she was in the photo. So, on this page, the title will be “Exit 17.”  I trimmed the photo with black ribbon. I used chipboard letters to make the title. I applied rhinestones to the transparencies to give it some sparkle. A flower accent was created with patterned papers and crinkled up to give it texture.

Voila! My completed page I think turned out pretty nice. I hope my mom loves it. These transparency pages are pretty neat. Next time, I”ll try to make my own!

Thanks for stoppin by! Until next time…..

“Exit 49″ Part Uno

November 4, 2010

Sooooo, let’s just say I’m kind of happy it’s November! Of course, for the obvious reasons…Thanksgiving, Christmas coming etc…etc. Also, because November means that October is over and my Mom’s 50th Birthday is now in the past! Whooo-hoooo! Don’t get me wrong…I love my Mommy and was very happy to celebrate her 50th but the planning was stressful and keeping it as a surprise was even worse!

My only saving grace was the actual crafting that was done as the decor for the party! Yeaahhhh! That was the fun part. Let’s start with the invites. My Mom is pretty savy and stylish and smart and…I could keep going. I wanted her invite to be sexy and fun just like she is. I decided to use my baby…no not Jai! The other one…..yeah the cricut. The cartridge Forever Young with all the women and girly stuff of course was perfect. The colors I chose for the party was black, white and haute pink. The base of the invite was black.

Party Invite for 50th B-Day

Haute pink was used as the background for the woman with her houndstooth pantsuit. Trimmed the top and bottom with zebra print paper. Patterned paper was used to cut out “Exit 49″. The message was printed on vellum paper with pink ink and jeweled with rhinestones. The woman was also jeweled with a rhinestone pendant and a sequins “flower” donned in her hair. Her shoes, belt and dot over the “i” were created with Big Glitzy glitter glue. I had so much fun doing these invites because all the women wore different pantsuits! When my Mom finally saw it she loved it! That’s all that matters…

The Best of Times

November 1, 2010

Sooooo, I’m back and I am really getting into this blogging thing. I am really enjoying the whole blogging idea. You know, just conversing on your ideas and sharing your creativity with any and all that will listen. I will admit that scrapbooking and papercrafting gives me more reason to share. Sometimes, my family and friends don’t share my enthusiasm about my crafts (well as my coworker would say, craps)! I would be so excited and all I would get is “that’s nice” with a straight face. I am so disappointed by this. So instead of seeking approval from the non-crafters…let me just share with my crafting family online! Ok, got that off my chest…whew!

A lot of the challenges that I participate in I get from Scraps of Color or Scrapfit.com. The Technique Tuesday #43 challenge asks for you to do a LO (layout) that includes a stamped border. I immediately decided I would do this because I rarely stamp but I really love my pages when I do use this technique. I don’t have many stamps because I only buy when they have an awesome sale on them. So as I dug through my one drawer of stamps I found a polka dot stamp. I bought this because I like polka dots and cirles for some reason. So anywho, I started stamping using a silver pigment inkpad. OK, so I did this before I even chose the photos I was going to use! Who does that? I found photos that had aqua blue in it because I has already stamped the polkadot border along the leftside of the aqua blue page. I then stamped the “best of times” using a clear stamp and blue embossing powder on lime green, red and light blue paper. I cut out the cirlces using paper edgers.

Jai and her Activity Chair

On my polka dot border, I added coloful dots and buttons. I used an animal print and red wavy ribbon with my photos situated to right side of the page. Journaling is added on vellum paper and attached with a yellow ribbon bow.

Voila! Here’s my 12×12 page which is my baby Jai sitting in her activity chair vibrating the day away! She really would spend her time trying her hardest to pull on the cat and dog! That chair was a life saver!

Thanks for stopping by! Come again and bring a friend.
